Billara Padbury is a licensed purebred Cleveland Bay, and is the only serving licensed purebred stallion in New Zealand. Imported to New Zealand in 2004 Basil is by Gillshaw Calliph a 17.1hh upstanding stallion imported from the UK to Australia and his dam Wetherby Marcab was by the legendary Osberton Goliath.
Billara Padbury has a superb temperament; a key characteristic of the Cleveland Bay Breed which can be seen is his lovely large soft eye. He has 9 and a half inch of bone which demonstrates the second key trait of the breed, that of substance. He has a beautifully set on neck with a good length of rein and his short back are all desirable for the breeding of a quality riding horse.
Billara Padbury has undergone a rigorous examination by the UK breed inspector and as a result gained his licence to breed purebreds. This is an acknowledgement of his quality as a stallion and that he possesses the Cleveland Bay characteristics desired in progeny to continue the survival of the breed.
